What is Influenza?

Influenza which is often known as flu, is an extreme illness of upper and lower respiratory tract with fever, chills, a deep sense of exhaustion, muscle pain, and various stages of head and abdominal soreness. Influenza can harm people of any age, but especially children and young adults report the maximum prevalence of the disease. Influenza is most widespread in the cooler months of the year. The virus is spread down through the respiratory system from person to person, for example by means of inhaling fluids from coughing and sneezing of an infected person. The flu can lead to serious health complications and possibly death. According to the World Health Organization, more than 650,000 people lose their lives from seasonal influenza.

What’s unique about influenza is it’s constantly changing. We’re really concerned about being ahead of the game for detecting a virus that could cause the next global pandemic.

Vaccine Available!

The influenza vaccine is a yearly vaccine that protects you from getting the flu. The flu vaccine stimulates your body’s immune system to make antibodies to attack the influenza virus.  Antibodies are proteins that recognize and fight off germs, such as viruses, that have invaded your blood. Therefore, the best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated. This vaccine should be injected before the start of every year. It should be vaccinated to vulnerable individuals who are prone to catch the virus such as children, pregnant women, and even health workers. As influenza viruses can vary from year to year, it is important to repeat vaccines every year. Click Here to read more.

Please note that it takes two weeks for a vaccine to begin prevention, so it is essential to get vaccinated early.
